چکیده

This project developed and evaluated a method to measure the diffusion of radon through thin polymer films. The system was designed so that the simple, one-dimensional transport model developed by Mosley (1996) could be used. The system uses radium-bearing rock as a high level radon source. The test film is sealed in the system with the high concentration radon gas on one side and an alpha detector sealed on the other side. The activity-versus-time data is collected and fitted using a non-linear least squares method. The system measurements and the three fit coefficients are used to calculate the system efficiency and diffusion coefficient. Three polymer films with published values of the radon diffusion coefficient (polyethylene, polyester, and latex) were tested in duplicate to evaluate the method and determine its comparability to values in published literature. The results show good repeatability (10%) and some comparability to similar published data (20% to 200%).

Simple technique for the simultaneous determination of solvent diffusion coefficient in polymer by Quantum Resistive Sensors and FTIR spectroscopy

A simple, quick and novel method for the determination of diffusion properties through polymer films, based on Quantum Resistive Sensors made of Conductive Polymer nanoComposites is presented. The integral time lag method is employed for the calculation of diffusion coefficient, and the results are compared simultaneously with that of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and sorption method....

Semi-IPN Films and Electrospun Nanofibers Based On Chitosan/PVA as an Antibacterial Wound Dressing

The antimicrobial activity of a wound dressing is a key factor for preventing and treating wound infection. The current study evaluated the physiochemical properties and antimicrobial activities of semi-IPNs (interpenetrating polymer networks) based on chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) films and nanofibers as candidates for wound dressings and investigated the effects of morphologies (nanofibrou...

Predicting the diffusion coefficient of water vapor through glassy HPMC films at different environmental conditions using the free volume additivity approach.

Prediction of diffusion coefficient of polymer materials is important in the pharmaceutical research and becomes the aim of this paper. This paper bases the prediction method on the estimation of the polymer fractional free volume at different environmental conditions. Focussing on glassy polymers, the free volumes of polymer films were estimated using the model of Vrentas et al. [J.S. Vrentas,...

Effect of N2 partial pressure on the structural and mechanical properties of TaN films

TaN films with different N2 partial pressure were deposited on 304 stainless steel using the magnetron sputtering method. The effect of gas pressure on the mechanical property, morphology and phase structure of the films is investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), microhardness testing, friction coefficient measurements, and wear mechanism study. The XRD results c...
